This year’s match featuring 9 pairs a side was hosted by the Ladies Captain, Shiela Hayes. Following heavy overnight rain and the threat of thundery showers, everyone dusted off their waterproofs and umbrellas expecting the worst. Remarkably, the early morning rain stopped before the first match teed off and we all had a dry round. The Newbury and Crookham course was in excellent condition especially the greens.Having lost to the Ladies in the previous three fixtures, it was important that we got off to a good start. The first 2 matches were halved and it wasn’t looking that promising after we lost two of the next three. 3-2 down after five matches. However, the team finished impressively winning the last four matches. Winning pairs were Tony Payne & Derek Smith, Bob Ellis & Simon Greenland, David Athey & Wilf Sequeira, Derrick Neal & Richard Osgood and Tony Hammond & Les Francis.
